G.I. JaneFile Name: Jane Ann Martelle of Cumberland, Rhode Island. Grade: Army E-5 (2006) SN: 413-51-AM61 Notes: Ann Martelle was a copywriter for Hasbro, providing the text that appeared on toy packaging. Cumberland is seven miles north of Pawtucket, which is the location of Hasbro's headquarters.

| G.I. JANE was a military operative whose cover was as a combat nurse. In missions around the globe, she provided her medical skills and scientific expertise in strategic defense technology. When G.I. JOE formed his covert team, he recruited her as a scientific specialist while maintaining her official cover as a nurse. She eventually "left" the military to get a Ph.D. in physics; while she no longer appeared in the active roster, she had, in fact, moved to deep cover operations. When G.I. JOE "retired" from the team and became head of secret military defense installation, he brought G.I. JANE onto the team as the lead scientist. Through her work in high-energy particle physics, she was instrumental in the development of a rapid-pulse electron beam to be used for global defense initiatives.
