While Grid-Iron is visting his high school friend Dr. Winters, her lab is attacked by Cobra to steal a new but unstable armor formula. Grid-Iron repels the attack using a Battle Wagon coated with the formula, but the vehicle then explodes. The two later attend a reunion on a cruise ship, and Dr. Winters accidentally brings along the armor formula on a disk containing a video program for the reunion. The event is also attended by Metal-Head, who had been the school's football mascot, and he brings his Granny along as his date. Metal-Head asks Dr. Winters for the formula directly; she naturally refuses, and he sends up flares to summon Cobra. Cobra Rats tow the ship to a whirlpool that begins sucking it toward an undersea Cobra base, but Grid-Iron radios for Grunt, who parachutes down to the base just before it closes up.
Knowing the formula doesn't work, Dr. Winters hands it over to Cobra to save her classmates. Destro finds the weakness in the formula but determines it only applies on land; it will still make sea vehicles invulnerable. The armor (somehow coating the base already) allows the base to ward off a Joe rescue team. But with the help of Grunt and Granny, Grid-Iron tricks Metal-Head into destroying the base's power center. As the base crumbles and Cobra evacuates, Dr. Winters records over the formula with a message to Metal-Head before giving him the disk, and the base's explosion propels the cruise ship back to the surface. It turns out the reunion party has been proceeding uninterrupted through the whole adventure.
