Animated Vehicle Appearances

Vehicles and other equipment released through 1992 and appearing in the cartoons are listed here. No carrying cases or accessory packs were ever animated, and so they are not included. For a complete list of releases, see the historical section of the website. For vehicles exclusive to the cartoon (as well as Joe Headquarters and the Terror Drome), see the Encyclopedia.

 

Air Chariot - full name: Cobra Air Chariot
The Air Chariot appeared in 14 episodes: ASA part 5, The Million Dollar Medic, The Rotten Egg, Glamour Girls, Grey Hairs and Growing Pains, My Brother's Keeper, My Favorite Things, The Most Dangerous Thing in the World, Joe's Night Out, Second Hand Emotions, Sins of Our Fathers, and parts 1, 4, and 5 of the Movie. The Air Chariot was included in the opening sequence of season 2. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #49.
As a toy, the Air Chariot was released in 1986 with the figure Serpentor (86), and was available by mail with Serpentor through several offers from 1988 to 1993.

 

APC - full name: Amphibious Personnel Carrier (APC)
APCs appeared in 24 episodes: ARAH part 4, TROC parts 2 and 5, Cobra's Creatures, Cobra Soundwaves, Jungle Trap, Haul Down the Heavens, Battle for the Train of Gold, Lights! Camera! Cobra!, Red Rocket's Glare, The Phantom Brigade, The Synthoid Conspiracy II, The Funhouse, Where the Reptiles Roam, Excalibur, Worlds Without End I, Cobra CLAWs Are Coming to Town, Hearts and Cannons, There's No Place Like Springfield I, ASA part 3, Let's Play Soldier, The Rotten Egg, Iceberg Goes South, and Joe's Night Out. The APC was included in the opening sequence of TROC. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #14.
As a toy, the APC was released in 1983 and was available by mail through several offers from 1986 to 1990. The vehicle bears some resemblance to the real-life French VAB, which is not amphibious.

 

Armadillo - full name: Mini Tank Armadillo
Armadillos appeared in 21 episodes: TPOD part 1, Cobra Soundwaves (prototype), Red Rocket's Glare, Satellite Down, Money to Burn, The Phantom Brigade, The Synthoid Conspiracy I, Twenty Questions, The Germ, The Traitor I-II, Worlds Without End I, Cobra CLAWs Are Coming to Town, The Pit of Vipers, ASA parts 3 and 4, The Million Dollar Medic, Once Upon a Joe, The Spy Who Rooked Me, and parts 2 and 4 of the Movie. The Armadillo was included in the opening sequence of season 1. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #37 and for the Silver Mirage ad.
As a toy, the Armadillo was released in 1985. With the exception of the quad cannons, the vehicle appears to be based on the M4 Sherman tank.

 

Armadillo - full name: Slaughter's Marauders Armadillo
Armadillos appeared in 5 episodes: Operation Dragonfire parts 1-5. The Armadillo is also included in the opening sequence for Operation Dragonfire.
As a toy, the Armadillo was released in 1989.

 

ASP - full name: Cobra ASP (Assault System Pod)
ASPs appeared in 9 episodes: TROC parts 1, 2, and 5, Cobra Stops the World, Red Rocket's Glare, Money to Burn, Spell of the Siren, Cobra CLAWs Are Coming to Town, and The Invaders.
As a toy, the ASP was released in 1984 and was available by mail through several offers from 1986 through 1987.

 

Attack Cruiser - full name: Attack Cruiser Mobile Attack Vehicle
Attack Cruisers appeared in 7 episodes: Chunnel, The Sludge Factor I-II, A Is for Android, Cobra World, Shadow of a Doubt, and Basic Training.
As a toy, the Attack Cruiser was released in 1991.

 

Avalanche
Avalanches appeared in 7 episodes: Victory at Volcania I, The Nozone Conspiracy, Night of the Creepers, General Confusion, Pigskin Commandos, Cold Shoulder, and D-Day at Alcatraz I. The Avalanche was included in the opening sequences of DiC seasons 1 and 2.
As a toy, the Avalanche was released in 1990 with the figure Cold Front (90).

 

AWE Striker - stands for All Weather and Environment
AWE Strikers appeared in 27 episodes: Red Rocket's Glare, Satellite Down, Twenty Questions, The Gamesmaster, The Viper Is Coming, Where the Reptiles Roam (error), The Germ, Captives of Cobra I-II, The Traitor II, Worlds Without End I-II, Cobra CLAWs Are Coming to Town, Flint's Vacation, Hearts and Cannons, The Pit of Vipers, Cold Slither, There's No Place Like Springfield  I, ASA Parts 2-5, Glamour Girls, and parts 1-4 of the Movie. The AWE Striker was included in the opening sequences of season 1 and season 2. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issues #51 and #59; and for the AWE Striker, Night Raven, and Tomahawk ads.
As a toy, the AWE Striker was released in 1985 with the figure Crankcase (85), and was available by mail through several offers from 1987 to 1988. The vehicle is a variation on the real-life Fast Attack Vehicle.

 

Badger - full name: Badger Front-Line Attack Jeep
Badgers appeared in 14 episodes: Chunnel, El Dorado - The Lost City of Gold, The Sword, Long Live Rock & Roll I, The Sludge Factor I-II, Kindergarten Commandos, The Greatest Evil I-II, A Is for Android, Cobra World, Shadow of a Doubt, Basic Training, The Legend of Metal-Head. The Badger was included in the opening sequence of season 2.
As a toy, the Badger was released in 1991.

 

Barracuda - full name: Barracuda One-Man Attack Sub
Barracudas appeared in 3 episodes: Messenger from the Deep, Metal-Head's Reunion, and Basic Training.
As a toy, the Barracuda was released in 1992.

 

Battle Copter - full name: Battle Copter High-Altitude, Quick-Strike Flying Craft
Joe Battle Copters appeared in 11 episodes: Chunnel, The Sword, Long Live Rock & Roll I-II, The Sludge Factor II, Keyboard Warriors, The Greatest Evil I, The Eliminator, Shadow of a Doubt, Basic Training, and The Legend of Metal-Head. The Battle Copter was included in the opening sequence of season 2.
As a toy, the Joe Battle Copter was released in 1991 with the figure Major Altitude (91). The black version released in 1992 with Ace (92) was never animated.

 

Battle Copter - full name: Cobra Battle Copter High-Altitude Flying Assault Aircraft
Cobra Battle Copters appeared in 13 episodes: Chunnel, The Sword, Long Live Rock & Roll II, The Sludge Factor I, Kindergarten Commandos, Keyboard Warriors, The Greatest Evil I, A Is for Android, Cobra World, Metal-Head's Reunion, Shadow of a Doubt, Basic Training, and The Legend of Metal-Head.
As a toy, the Cobra Battle Copter was released in 1991 with the figure Interrogator (91). The black version released in 1992 with Heli-Viper (92) was never animated.

 

Battle Cycle
Battle Cycles appeared in 6 episodes: Chunnel, Kindergarten Commandos, The Greatest Evil I, Cobra World, Shadow of a Doubt, and Basic Training.
The Battle Cycle is mentioned on Duke's 1992 filecard, and production sketches exist, but the toy was never released.

 

Battle Platform - full name: Transportable Tactical Battle Platform
Battle Platforms appeared in 5 episodes: The Traitor I-II, Excalibur, Computer Complications, and Raise the Flagg. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #40.
As a toy, the Battle Platform was released in 1985.

 

Battle Wagon - full name: Motorized Battle Wagon
Battle Wagons appeared in 9 episodes: Long Live Rock & Roll II, The Greatest Evil I-II, A Is for Android, Cobra World, Metal-Head's Reunion, Shadow of a Doubt, Basic Training, and The Legend of Metal-Head. The Battle Wagon was included in the opening sequence of season 2.
As a toy, the Battle Wagon was released in 1991.

 

Brawler
Brawlers appeared in 6 episodes: Chunnel, Infested Island, A Is for Android, Cobra World, The Eliminator, and Basic Training.
As a toy, the Brawler was released in 1991.

 

Bridge Layer - full name: Bridge Layer (Toss 'N Cross)
The Bridge Layer appeared in 6 episodes: TPOD parts 3 and 5, Red Rocket's Glare, Satellite Down, The Germ, and Captives of Cobra I.
As a toy, the Toss 'n Cross was generally released in 1985 with the figure Tollbooth (85) after a limited release in some Sears stores during the 1984 Christmas season. The vehicle bears some resemblance to the M60A1 AVLB.

 

Bunker - full name: Cobra Bunker Battle Station
The Bunker appeared only in a single shot of the opening sequence of season 2.
As a toy, the Bunker was released in 1985, and was available by mail in 1988 through the Capture the Excitement offer.

 

Chameleon - full name: Swamp Skier (Chameleon)
Chameleons appeared in 4 episodes: TROC parts 1 and 5, Jungle Trap, and The Funhouse. The Chameleon was included in the opening sequence of TROC. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issues #25 and #35. A grey prototype Chameleon appeared in ARAH part 2.
As a toy, the Chameleon was released in 1984 with the figure Zartan (84).

 

CLAW - full name: Cobra CLAW (Covert Light Aerial Weapon)
CLAWs appeared in 15 episodes: TROC parts 1 and 3, TPOD part 2, Cobra's Creatures, Countdown for Zartan, Cobra Soundwaves, Satellite Down, Money to Burn, The Greenhouse Effect, The Traitor II, Worlds Without End I-II, Cobra CLAWs Are Coming to Town, G.I. Joe and the Golden Fleece, and part 4 of the Movie. The CLAW was included in the opening sequences of TROC and the Movie. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #24.
As a toy, the CLAW was released in 1984.

 

Condor - full name: Cobra Condor Z25
Condors appeared in Operation Dragonfire part 4. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for the Raider/Condor ad.
As a toy, the Condor was released in 1989 with the figure Aero-Viper (89).

 

Conquest - full name: Conquest X-30
Conquests appeared in 25 episodes: ASA parts 1-5, Last Hour to Doomsday, Let's Play Soldier, Computer Complications, Sink the Montana, Cobrathon, The Million Dollar Medic, The Rotten Egg, My Favorite Things, Raise the Flagg!, G.I. Joe and the Golden Fleece, Ninja Holiday, Nightmare Assault, Joe's Night Out, Second Hand Emotions, Not a Ghost of a Chance, In the Presence of Mine Enemies, parts 2, 3, and 4 of the Movie, and the DiC episode Operation Dragonfire part 4. The Conquest was included in the opening sequences of season 2 and the Movie. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #54; and for the Conquest ad.
As a toy, the Conquest X-30 was released in 1986 with the figure Slip-Stream (86). The vehicle has many similarities with the Grunman X-29.

 

Devastator - full name: Cobra Battlefield Robot Devastator
Devastators appeared in 2 episodes: Operation Dragonfire parts 1 and 2. The Devastator was included in the opening sequence of Operation Dragonfire. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for the Battlefield Robots ad.
As a toy, the Devastator was released in 1989.

 

Devilfish
Devilfish appeared in 8 episodes: ASA parts 3 and 5, Iceberg Goes South, Grey Hairs and Growing Pains, My Brother's Keeper, Raise the Flagg!, Sins of Our Fathers, and part 4 of the Movie. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #47.

Firebat - full name: Cobra Firebat
Grey Firebats appeared in 11 episodes: Lights! Camera! Cobra!, The Phantom Brigade, The Synthoid Conspiracy II, Spell of the Siren (with red fins), The Viper Is Coming, The Funhouse, Bazooka Saw a Sea Serpent, Hearts and Cannons, Memories of Mara, There's No Place like Springfield I, and Last Hour to Doomsday. The grey Firebat also appeared in the Triple Win Game commercial. Red Firebats likewise appeared in 11 episodes: ASA parts 3 and 5, Computer Complications, Sink the Montana, Once upon a Joe, G.I. Joe and the Golden Fleece, Ninja Holiday, Joe's Night Out, Sins of Our Fathers, In the Presence of Mine Enemies, and part 1 of the Movie. A red Firebat was included in the opening sequence of the Movie, and one appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #54.
As a toy, the Firebat was released in 1986 with the Terror Drome playset (86) and the figure AVAC (86), and was available with AVAC by mail through 1990's Stop Cobra in Their Tracks offer.

 

FLAK - full name: Attack Cannon (FLAK); stands for Field Light Attack Cannon
The FLAK appeared in 7 episodes: ARAH parts 1 and 5, Cobra Soundwaves, Battle for the Train of Gold, The Synthoid Conspiracy I, and The Viper Is Coming, and as a Cobra weapon in ARAH part 4. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issues #5 and #49.
As a toy, the FLAK was released in 1982 and was available by mail through several offers in 1984-85, and through 1990's G.I. Joe Bugle offer (where it was called the FLAC).

 

Fort America - full name: Fort America Battle Fortress
Fort Americas (Forts America?) appeared only in the episode Shadow of a Doubt.
As a toy, the Fort America was released in 1992.

 

General - full name: General Mobile Strike Headquarters and Launch Pad
Generals appeared in 9 episodes: Granny Dearest, Victory at Volcania I-II, I Found You...Evy, General Confusion, D-Day at Alcatraz I, BIOK, Chunnel, and The Sludge Factor I. The General was included in the opening sequences of seasons 1 and 2.
As a toy, the General was released in 1990 with the figure Major Storm (90).

 

Glider - Air Commandos Glider
Joe gliders appeared in 7 episodes: The Sword, Long Live Rock & Roll II, The Sludge Factor I, Kindergarten Commandos, Keyboard Warriors, Infested Island, and Basic Training. The Air Commandos glider is included in the opening sequence of season 2. In the cartoon, the Joe gliders could collapse into medium-sized backpacks when not in use. Cloudburst's color scheme was used for most Joe gliders, although Skymate's coloration appeared in Kindergarten Commandos. Spirit's glider was never animated.
As toys, Joe gliders were included with single-carded figures Cloudburst (91), Skymate (91), and Spirit (92).

 

Glider - Cobra Air Commandos Glider
Cobra gliders appeared in 6 episodes: The Sword, Long Live Rock & Roll I, Kindergarten Commandos, The Greatest Evil I, A Is for Android, and Basic Training. Night Vulture's color scheme was used for most Cobra gliders, although Sky Creeper's coloration appeared in Long Live Rock & Roll I and A Is for Android. Air Devil's glider was never animated.
As toys, Cobra gliders were included with single-carded figures Night Vulture (91), Sky Creeper (91), and Air Devil (92).

 

Hammer High-Tech Attack Jeep
Hammers appeared in 11 episodes: United We Stand, Revenge of the Pharaohs, Victory at Volcania II, I Found You...Evy, Night of the Creepers, General Confusion, Stuck on You, D-Day at Alcatraz I-II, An Officer and a Viperman, and BIOK. The Hammer was included in the opening sequences of seasons 1 and 2.
As a toy, the Hammer was released in 1990.

 

Hammerhead - full name: Cobra Hammerhead Submersible Sea Tank
Hammerheads appeared in 11 episodes: Granny Dearest, Victory at Volcania II, Pigskin Commandos, D-Day at Alcatraz I-II, That's Entertainment, Messenger from the Deep, The Eliminator, Metal-Head's Reunion, Basic Training (sleds only), and The Legend of Metal-Head. The Hammerhead was included in the opening sequence of season 1, with the command module appearing in the opening sequence of season 2.
As a toy, the Hammerhead was released in 1990 with the figure Decimator (90).

 

HAVOC - stands for Heavy Articulated Vehicle Ordnance Carrier
HAVOCs appeared in 17 episodes: ASA parts 1-3 and 5, Let's Play Soldier, Cobrathon, The Million Dollar Medic, Once Upon a Joe, The Spy Who Rooked Me, My Brother's Keeper, The Most Dangerous Thing in the World, Nightmare Asasult, Into Your Tent I Will Silently Creep, and parts 1-4 of the Movie. The HAVOC was included in the opening sequence of season 2. Its recon craft flew separately only in Into Your Tent I Will Silently Creep and The Movie part 2. The HAVOC also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue 51 and for the HAVOC and Mamba ads.
As a toy, the HAVOC was released in 1986 with the figure Cross-Country (86).

 

HISS - full name: Cobra HISS High Speed Sentry
HISSes appeared in 37 episodes: ARAH parts 1, 2, 4, and 5, TROC parts 1, 3, 4, and 5, TPOD parts 1, 4, and 5, Cobra Stops the World, Jungle Trap, Haul Down the Heavens, Operation Mind Menace, Lights! Camera! Cobra!, The Phantom Brigade, Spell of the Siren, The Gamesmaster, The Viper Is Coming, The Funhouse, The Traitor II, Worlds Without End I-II, Cobra CLAWs Are Coming to Town, Hearts and Cannons, The Pit of Vipers, Cold Slither, The Great Alaskan Land Rush, Skeletons in the Closet, ASA parts 1, 3, and 5, The Million Dollar Medic, The Most Dangerous Thing in the World, and parts 2 and 3 of the Movie. The HISS is included in the opening sequence of ARAH. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issues #16, #18, #19, #35, #49, and #68. Some HISSes had two cannon turrets (e.g., TPOD part 4), and The Gamesmaster had a brief appearance of white HISSes in an arctic environment.
As a toy, the HISS was released in 1983 with the figure HISS Driver (83) and was available by mail through several offers from 1986 to 1988, and again in 1991-92.

 

H.I.S.S. II - full name: Cobra HISS II
HISS II's appeared in 8 episodes: Operation Dragonfire parts 1, 2, and 5, Victory at Volcania I-II, Night of the Creepers, General Confusion, and D-Day at Alcatraz I. The HISS II was included in the opening sequence of Operation Dragonfire. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for the Mudfighter/HISS ad.
As a toy, the HISS II was released in 1989 with the figure Track Viper (89).

 

Hovercraft - full name: Cobra Battlefield Robot Hovercraft
Hovercraft appeared in 2 episodes: Operation Dragonfire parts 2 and 3. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for the Battlefield Robots and Thunderclap ads.
As a toy, the Hovercraft was released in 1989.

 

Hurricane - full name: Cobra Hurricane VTOL Vertical Takeoff and Landing Jet

The Hurricane was included in the opening sequences of seasons 1 and 2.
As a toy, the Hurricane was released in 1990 with the figure Vapor (90).

 

Ice Sabre - full name: Cobra Ice Sabre
Ice Sabres appeared in 5 episodes: Keyboard Warriors, Cobra World, The Eliminator, Basic Training, and The Legend of Metal-Head.

The JUMP's landing platform never appeared on the cartoon, but the jet packs appeared in 8 episodes: ARAH parts 1, 4, and 5, TROC part 1, TPOD parts 1 and 4, and Cobra's Creatures, and as a Cobra weapon in TPOD part 2. (The jets used by Hawk in ASA part 2 were belt-mounted rockets.) JUMPs were included in the opening sequences of ARAH and the Movie. As a toy, the JUMP was released in 1982 without a figure, and again in 1983 with the figure Grand Slam (83). The jet pack portion was included as an accessory for early releases of Starduster (87).

Stuns appeared in 18 episodes: ASA parts 1-5, The Million Dollar Medic, Glamour Girls, The Spy Who Rooked Me, My Brother's Keeper, The Most Dangerous Thing in the World, Nightmare Assault, Sins of Our Fathers, In the Presence of Mine Enemies, parts 1-4 of the Movie, and the DiC episode Operation Dragonfire part 4. The Stun was included in the opening sequence of season 2. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #49; and for the Triple 'T', HAVOC, and Stun ads.
As a toy, the Stun was released in 1986 with the figure Motor-Viper.

 

Swampfire - full name: Dreadnok Swampfire

In the DiC series, the Tomahawk appeared (with a green color scheme) in I Found You...Evy. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for the Sgt. Slaughter, Tomahawk, and Triple 'T' ads.
As a toy, the Tomahawk was released in 1986 with the figure Lift-Ticket (86). The vehicle bears a slight resemblance to the Boeing Vertol 107 and some variants of the CH-47 Chinook.

 

Triple 'T' - full name: Triple 'T' Tag Team Terminator
The Triple 'T' appeared in 6 episodes: ASA parts 1, 3, and 5, My Brother's Keeper, and parts 3 and 4 of the Movie. The vehicle was included in the opening sequence of season 2. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for the Triple 'T' ad.

The Flagg appeared in 18 episodes: TPOD parts 2, 4, and 5, The Synthoid Conspiracy I, Spell of the Siren, The Germ, Bazooka Saw a Sea Serpent, Excalibur, Flint's Vacation, The Pit of Vipers, Skeletons in the Closet, There's No Place Like Springfield I-II, Let's Play Soldier, Computer Complicatons, Raise the Flagg!, G.I. Joe and the Golden Fleece, and Not a Ghost of a Chance. The USS Flagg was included in the opening sequence of season 2. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issue #80, and for the Sea Ray/WOLF ad.
As a toy, the Flagg was released in 1985 with the figure Keel-Haul (85). The vehicle appears to be based on the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. Most vessels of the class are named after US Presidents (plus a Senator and a Congressman, and Adm. Nimitz).

 

VAMP - full name: Attack Vehicle (VAMP); stands for Multi-Purpose Attack Vehicle
The VAMP appeared in 16 episodes: ARAH parts 3-5, TROC parts 1 and 2, TPOD part 5, Cobra's Creatures, Cobra Soundwaves, Haul Down the Heavens, Battle for the Train of Gold, Spell of the Siren, Where the Reptiles Roam, The Traitor I-II, and Cobra CLAWs Are Coming to Town. The VAMP was included in the opening sequence of ARAH. It also appeared in commercial animation produced for comic issues #1, #5, #16, #18, #19, and #35.
As a toy, the VAMP was released in 1982 with the figure Clutch (82), and again in 1984 as a Sears exclusive with the vehicle HAL.

Water Moccasin - full name: Cobra Water Moccasin
Water Moccasins appeared in 15 episodes: TROC parts 3-5, TPOD part 4, Jungle Trap, The Synthoid Conspiracy II, Twenty Questions, The Germ, The Traitor II, Excalibur, Worlds Without End I, Flint's Vacation, Memories of Mara, Cold Slither, and Last Hour to Doomsday.
