The man responsible for these repugnant reptiles is Croc Master, a former alligator wrestler and burglar alarm salesman who founded Guard-Gators Inc. in an effort to commercialize the use of alligators for home security. "Croc Master spends his leisure hours dozing in a tub of tepid bath water with only his nose breaking the surface. He dreams strange green dreams while grinding his teeth and clenching his powerful jaws. He has a hunger that never leaves him . . . "

	Lurking in the savage swamps of COBRA Island reside some of the fiercest sentinels you can imagine—the COBRA crocodiles. Any potential invading force must have a plan for dealing with these creatures, or face the consequences of having their troops become dinner for these ravenous denizens of the deep. While scaly skin, foul breath, and a nasty disposition describe your typical crocodile, they apply ten-fold for their trainer. Using mannequins dressed as G.I. JOE Team members, CROC MASTER trains the gators to attack and destroy, unafraid to wrestle unruly crocs into submission to exert his dominance. After the original CROC MASTER perished in the freighter during the COBRA civil war, a succession of new individuals have assumed the mantle. It's not easy to maintain a grip on the position, with hungry crocs on one side and power-hungry trainees on the other, both waiting for the first opportunity to turn on their master.

Collierville (pop. 31,872) is a suburb of Memphis in the southwest corner of the state. It was the site of several Civil War battles and is home to FedEx World Technology Headquarters. Also from Tennessee are Med Alert of Nashville and Breaker of Gatlinburg.
Note: Eliot Brown is also the name of one of Marvel's comic writers and artists.

	Fast Draw carries the new FAFNIR [Fire and Forget Non-tube-launched Infantry Rocket] missile system and wears the necessary protective suit to shield himself from hot exhaust gases. The FAFNIR target acquisition and homing devices are all self-contained in the missile itself allowing the operator to take cover immediately after launch. Target lock-on displays are projected on the interior of the helmet face plate as well as threat and malfunction warnings. The missile is extremely fast and resistant to ECM jamming. "Fast Draw thinks of himself as an old-west gunfighter. A whole squadron of COBRA STUNS could be rumbling across the landscape at him and he just stands there with a missile rack in each hand and that 'come-and-get-it' look in his eyes. You might call him arrogant but at least he has the firepower to back him up."

	Modern battles involve expensive, complicated machines and it is inevitable that these machines sustain enemy inflicted damage, succumb to driver-error, or simply break down of their own accord. It is the mission of the Techno-Vipers to provide field maintenance support and combat-engineer capability to the frontline Cobra troops. Techno-Vipers can repair HISS tanks, build bridges, and retrieve large heavy machines from seemingly inaccessible places. "Just because the Techno-Vipers carry wrenches and jacks, don't underestimate them! They work their way up from the ranks of Vipers and each one is a qualified Cobra Infantryman. They also function as sappers and are always called on as the first wave in assaulting a heavily fortified position!"

	Modern space battles involve expensive, complicated equipment. And like most things that are expensive and complicated, this equipment tends to break down. The job of repairing the high-tech machines belongs to the Techno-Vipers. They can repair everything from Cobra Detonators to Ice Snakes, but their most important duty involves the maintenance and operations of Cobra Power Fighter units. With design plans stolen from G.I. Joe, the Techno-Vipers helped design the Power Fighters, so naturally they were Cobra Commander's first choice to drive them—full throttle and armed to the max!
Variations: There exists a very rare variant with yellow instead of bronze, as pictured on the filecard.

Bangor (pop. 31,473), on I-95 in central ME, is the former home of Dow Air Force Base, and since 1990 features the most powerful radar in the world, the USAF East Coast Radar System. Avalanche is from Madawaska to the north, and Blizzard's Wolfeboro, NH is about the same distance to the west.

MERCER - a merchant dealing in textiles

1987/2006 identity: Felix P. Stratton (American with Saxon English or Scottish surname) of Spencer, WV.
Spencer (pop. 2,352) is a relatively low-income community in the western part of the state, primarily known as the home of the state's Black Walnut Festival. The only Joe indisputably from West Virginia is the Ranger Sidetrack from New Manchester.

1991 identity: Richard S. Cecil (American with Norman English surname) of Richmond, VA.
Richmond (pop. 200,123) is Virginia's capital on I-64 and I-95, and was the site of Patrick Henry's Give Me Liberty speech. Other Virginia Joes are Gen. Flagg, Keel-Haul, Salvo, and Wet Down.

	The Renegades don't answer to anyone but themselves. They don't officially exist. They can function with very little restraint but if they are compromised, they're on their own. Mercer was the only Cobra Viper that ever defected to the Joes and survived. He had joined Cobra for the adventure and the promise of material gain but soon grew disaffected with the Cobra philosophy. He escaped Cobra Island by hot-wiring a hydrofoil and outrunning his pursuers across the Gulf of Mexico. Mercer is proficient with all Cobra small arms and explosive devices. "Mercer found his true home with the Renegades. He gets three meals a day, a warm place to sleep, and a chance to shoot at Cobras!"

	MERCER was the only Cobra Viper to defect to G.I. Joe. He originally signed up with SGT. SLAUGHTER'S MARAUDERS, an outfit so secret that the Pentagon never acknowledged their existence. Recently transferred into the main body of the G.I. Joe team, Mercer is invaluable as a tough fighter and as a source of inside information on Cobra tactics and battle doctrine. "Although the rest of the G.I. Joes weren't too thrilled about having a defector in the ranks, especially one from Cobra, we soon developed a grudging respect for his no nonsense attitude and coolness under fire. We also didn't mind the fact that Mercer is strong enough to carry a 88mm Stanford Rocket Launcher with an ample supply of anti-tank armaments. 	FELIX "MERCER" STRATTON was the only COBRA VIPER that ever defected to the G.I. JOE team and survived. While some team members are still wary around him, even after voluntarily wearing an electronic monitoring armband, he has proven himself to SGT. SLAUGHTER on countless occasions—which is no easy task. Although his knowledge of the inner workings of COBRA is valuable, his infiltration skills are his greatest aset. Once he even joined the mainstream G.I. JOE team as an official member by changing his name and appearance, but he soon grew tired of "playing by the rules" and returned to the life on the edge that being a Renegade guarantees. MERCER's loyalty to the one man who gave him a second chance knows no bounds. Upon hearing of COBRA COMMANDER's challenge to eliminate the Sarge, the former VIPER immediately rounded up the other Renegades. The trio suited up in their new body armor system and headed to the top-secret training camp to protect their mentor. "I used to be a big bad COBRA, now I'm just a mean snake-stomping machine!"

	The Renegades have no official status. Their movements and activites are virtually unrestricted. They don't get any credit when they succeed and everybody denies knowing anything about them when they fail. Red Dog could have had a pro football career as a barefoot placekicker if a defensive lineman hadn't ground his cleats into the big Samoan's obtruding toe.The lineman ended up with a broken helmet and a concussion. Red Dog was suspended for excessive roughness. He later worked briefly as a stuntman in "B" movies until he was recruited by G.I. Joe Command. "The other Renegades think that Red Dog is a handy gun to have along on missions. If they encounter an obstacle of any kind: barricade, tank-trap, or phalanx of armed guards, they simply point Red Dog in the appropriate direction, let him go, and wait for the dust to settle."

	DAVID "RED DOG" TAPUTAPU could have had a pro football career as a barefoot place-kicker, but he was permanently suspended for unnecessary roughness. While this recklessness was too uncontrollable for the regular G.I. JOE team, SGT. SLAUGHTER recognized his potential and took him under his wing as part of his personal experiment in rehabilitation, known as the Renegades program. Since they don't officially exist, they can function with very little restraint but if they are compromised, they're on their own. All their missions are covert, and they are even paid through a special fund earmarked as "Pentagon Pest Control." RED DOG may never learn to fully control his animalistic rage, because there always seems to be a good use for it. When the Renegades found out about the threat to SGT. SLAUGHTER by "intercepting" a messenger, RED DOG literally chomped at the bit to join the mission to protect him. He was barely contained by his comrades, nearly crazed in his desire to save their leader before his training camp literally becomes its namesake. "Fourth down, time to punt. . . YOU!"

	The Renegades aren't carried on the rosters of any existing military unit. There is no computer access to their dossiers and they are paid through a special fund earmarked for "Pentagon Pest Control." This gives the Renegades a freedom of operation that the Joes can't match. It also means that the government can deny everything if they're caught. Taurus was a circus acrobat in Europe who did occasional undercover work for INTERPOL. His circus act involved breaking two-by-fours on his own face, a feat which so impressed the G.I. 	VARUJAN "TAURUS" AYVAZYAN was a circus acrobat in Europe who did occasional undercover work for INTERPOL. Unfortunately, his penchant for scimitars and other exotic edged weapons left too many tell-tale injuries. He soon found himself out of work and looking for a sign, wandering the desert and mountains with a circus troupe. Recruited by G.I. JOE and sent to the secret training facility code-named "The Slaughterhouse," he knew he had found his calling with like-minded rebels who honor justice but have a few problems with authority. Only a tough-as-nails drill instructor like SGT. SLAUGHTER can keep him in line, but when he is done, all of his Renegades will be perfect. Hearing of COBRA COMMANDER's threat to the Sarge, TAURUS somehow "acquired" three light-weight multi-threat tactical body armor systems from a secret Future Soldier program being tested in their vicinity. He outfitted the Renegades, and without thought to his personal safety, rushed off to the Sarge's defense—unaware of the strength of the combined forces with which they would have to contend. "I do not like his face. Let us remove it, yes?"
