	COBRA MORTAL is a mystery, yet his name and talents are well known throughout South America. He served for several years in the COBRA battalion that operates south of the equator, but for reasons unknown, severed his official ties and became a mercenary agent. He is now a professional assassin with a long list of high-profile names that have fallen under his scope. Equally adept at reconnaissance and surveillance, his real talent is the elimination of enemies from a concealed location and withdrawing without ever being seen. His cold and calculating tactics as well as his strange body armor, lead many to believe that he may not even be human. Although he still functions as a COBRA field operative and holds rank when the pay warrants his services, his implacable cruelty marks him as too heartless even for others to stomach. This is exactly how COBRA MORTAL prefers it, trusting in his own abilities rather than relying on vast armies, and using his skill with exotic armaments such as his custom laser crossbow and reflective body armor rather than traditional weapons. He believes tracking down and eliminating SGT. SLAUGHTER will be the perfect opportunity to showcase his merciless ways and make a name for himself the world over. 	COIL TROOPERS are the most vicious and ruthless of all sub-armies in the extended COBRA Empire. They range from former VIPER agents to expatriated soldiers tired of playing by the rules. Because of their mutually secret origins, they tend to be a more tightly knit and better disciplined organization than most of COBRA's fodder, and adhere to a strict join-for-life policy. Swarming over their enemies with far more violence than is required, they pursue the goals of their leader, OVERLORD, with absolute devotion. Rumors that this loyalty is chemically induced have yet to be substantiated, though they range from aggression-causing additives in their food to derivatives of SERPENTOR's blood in their drink! The troopers of the COIL army are driven to help their leader win COBRA COMMANDER's mercenary challenge by eliminating SGT. SLAUGHTER. Some look forward to the opportunity to crush the legendary G.I. JOE Drill Instructor because of old COBRA grudges, some because of the rough treatment they received before "washing out" under his tutelage! "No one escapes the crushing might of the COIL!"

	The SKULL SQUAD represents the most talented, highly trained, and notorious freelance mercenaries known in MAJOR BLUDD's shady circle of operations. They are an international cadre of clandestine operatives. Each member has been hand-picked for his specific skills and use of unorthodox tactics, and further trained personally by MAJOR BLUDD in his unique close quarter combat techniques. Their sole purpose is to track down and dispose of specified targets. Although they are essentially bounty hunters with little regard for ideological, national, or political considerations, they can always be counted on to get the job done—if the price is right. Each member of the Skull Squad has his own devious methods for locating targets, but as a group they are able to put their differences aside for a common monetary goal. Their special talents will be put to the test in determining the location of the most intense G.I. JOE training camp, code named "The Slaughterhouse." Disposing of the top drill instructor SGT. SLAUGHTER is another matter—regardless of any bonus MAJOR BLUDD has promised them! "Always strike at the top; then you can watch as the rest crumbles in defeat!"

	SNOW SERPENTS are COBRA's arctic specialists, a branch of the already highly trained EEL (frogmen) division. They are screened for optimum strength, endurance, and motivation, and then subjected to a grueling and dangerous training program with over a fifty percent drop out rate. Skilled in every possible cold weather discipline, from airborne to artillery, their training is rigorous, and the environmental conditions are unforgiving. But as with most of COBRA's army, they are ultimately in it for the money—and no troops bring home more cold, hard cash than SNOW SERPENTS. The SNOW SERPENT COMMANDER is a formidable arctic fighter, mainly because of his exceedingly mean-tempered and nasty attitude. He has proven himself to be fearless in dangerous and often thankless assignments in the farthest corners of the globe. Years of training have made him COBRA's premiere arctic environment combat specialist, a harsh taskmaster who does not hesitate in making things even more uncomfortable than they aready are if it helps weed out the weak. It is this zero-tolerance attitude that led COBRA COMMANDER to personally select him to lead an ICE-VIPER on Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H., in hopes of retrieving the final component of the fallen satellite before it is lost in the frozen wasteland forever. "Lunch break? Maybe a few laps around the igloo in your underwear will quiet your whining!"

	COBRA AIR TROOPERS specialize in air assaults, using jet backpacks to fly into their target areas. As ground forces keep the enemy busy below, the air troopers sweep in from above. COBRA troopers who show exceptional air combat skills are selected for this elite force and given special training in airborne attack tactics. They also fly COBRA fighter jets on combat and scouting missions for COBRA COMMANDER. "COBRA AIR TROOPERS are flying menaces from the sky. Their jet backpacks are operated by voice command, leaving both hands free to blast away with any and all weapons they're carrying."
