	The leader of the COBRA NIGHT WATCH troops is a master of the midnight patrol. He can completely disappear into the shadows, instantly pinpoint the source of a strange sound in the darkness, and stay awake with just a quick catnap while pouring himself another cup of coffee. He trains his troops with light-deprivation techniques in pitch-black subterranean cells that he designed himself. While the day-shift squad leaders derisively refer to his troops as "the vampire squad," the night trooper leader is proud to work the midnight-to-dawn patrol. He believes that G.I. JOE forces will eventually strike at night, hoping to catch COBRA forces unawares. But the night trooper squad leader and his forces will be ready and waiting for them. "My troops and I rule the dark. While the day-shift guys are snoring away in their pajamas, we're out there every night, guarding them from enemy attack."

	SWAMP RAT infiltrators are COBRA volunteers or captured civilians who have been genetically altered with the Venom serum. Having all the attributes of their marsh rodent namesakes, SWAMP RAT forces can slither undetected under the surface of fetid stagnant water for long periods, and compress their bodies to fit inside narrow drainpipes and sewers. Their nght-vision, hearing, and sense of smell are extremely acute, and they can subsist indefinitely on foodstuffs that would make a vulture sick. Not especially good as frontline combat troops, SWAMP RAT troops are more effective as infiltrators, behind-the-scenes saboteurs and spies. They have a natural ability to sneak up behind people and are very good at escaping and hiding when they are detected. When cornered, they will put up a frenzied resistance and attack even after surrendering. "Nasty traps they set for us, and electrified fences—but none of that can keep us from creeping in and gnawing through their walls!"

	SWAMP RAT infiltrators are COBRA volunteers or captured civilians who have been genetically altered with the Venom serum. Having all the attributes of their marsh rodent namesakes, SWAMP RAT forces can slither undetected under the surface of fetid stagnant water for long periods, and compress their bodies to fit inside narrow drainpipes and sewers. Their nght-vision, hearing, and sense of smell are extremely acute, and they can subsist indefinitely on foodstuffs that would make a vulture sick. Not especially good as frontline combat troops, SWAMP RAT troops are more effective as infiltrators, behind-the-scenes saboteurs and spies. They have a natural ability to sneak up behind people and are very good at escaping and hiding when they are detected. When cornered, they will put up a frenzied resistance and attack even after surrendering. "Nasty traps they set for us, and electrified fences—but none of that can keep us from creeping in and gnawing through their walls!"

Yonkers (pop. 196,086) is a city bordering The Bronx and became a manufacturing center during World War II, when tanks were produced there. ITs natives include Edwin Armstrong, inventor of FM broadcasting, and elevator inventor Elisha Otis. Many Joes are from various parts of New York City: Backblast, Big Brawler, Bushido, Crossfire, Heavy Metal, Nunchuk, Rampart, and Tunnel Rat.

	HARD DRIVE did linear equations in his head when he was seven, beat every video game on the market by the age of eight, and hacked his way into Defense Ministry computers of a major foreign power before the age of ten. At MIT, which he graduated from at eighteen, he held 27 patents and led the wrestling team to two regional championships. The modern infantryman is outfitted with a fighting system that is a complex integration of weapons, optics, communications, and sensors. What holds the system together and makes it work are microprocessors, and HARD DRIVE can maintain and repair them in the field. He is also qualified as a small arms armorer, communications specialist, and medic, which makes him capable of "fixing" any of the fighting system components, including the infantryman! "Combat is the ultimate 'Boss Battle,' so I like to make sure I have plenty of 'Power-Ups' on hand in the form of carbs, energy bars, and soda!"
