Cincinnati (pop. 332,458), at I-71 and I-75, is a city at Ohio's southwest corner. Barrel Roll is also from Cincinnati. To the north are Dayton (home of Double Blast and Super Trooper) and Springsboro (Checkpoint). Also from Ohio are Grunt of Columbus, Agent Faces of Parma, and Downtown of Cleveland.

	RED SPOT built his first laser device when he was nine, after watching a science fiction marathon on cable TV. It was cobbled together from salvaged parts and items he bought from an electronics catalogue. His interest in light amplification kept growing, but it wasn't until he had joined the military that he realized the full potential of his field of interest. He has participated in development programs at various secret labs and many of the devices he uses in the field are his own designs or contain his modifications. Although he seems to be a classic geek, RED SPOT is better socialized than most. He has interest in other things besides electronics, plays centerfield [sic] in the G.I. JOE softball team, goes out on dates with real girls, and owns t-shirts without band logos or cute messages printed on them. He is also a world-class rated master in chess, and a ni-dan (2nd degree black belt) in Aikido. "The theoretical stuff and the practical application to hardware are all fun stuff, but the real challenge is out in the field, crawling through the mud with tracers zipping by overhead. That's where you find out whether you're a soldier or not."

	Trained by SNAKE EYES in over twelve forms of hand-to-hand combat, KAMAKURA is as versatile with a katana (sword) or kusari-gama (chain and sickle) as he is with a standard issue M-4 assault rifle. No one is quite sure how the young ninja convinced SNAKE EYES to take him under his tutelage, but KAMAKURA bears the same Arashikage ninja clan tattoo as both SNAKE EYES and STORM SHADOW. Perhaps SNAKE EYES felt it was his responsibility to pass on the clan's traditions, since its only other living Arashikage master has joined COBRA forces. While he's one of the most skilled fighters on the G.I. JOE team, KAMAKURA hasn't yet reached the level of his master, and SNAKE EYES isn't afraid to knock him down in hard randori (sparring) if he forgets. KAMAKURA is, however, a little more personable to have around. He tends to lurk in the background and prefers to tackle his assignments as quickly and quietly as possible. "We don't know how KAMAKURA talked SNAKE EYES into teaching him all those moves, but I do know the hardest part of his training wasn't the bruises and bumps. It was his six month vow of silence."

Well on his way to mastering 12 forms of unarmed combat, he is also highly skilled with the sword, sai, chain, and sickle, as well as with the standard issue M-16A2 battle rifle. KAMAKURA doesn't like to be the center of attention, preferring to remain in the background until the time is right to strike. He's the same way with conversation, too; he usually keeps quiet, but hanging around SNAKE EYES doesn't offer much to say, so once you get him started, KAMAKURA has a lot to catch up on. "KAMAKURA reminds us of SNAKE EYES in his early days. He gets in, gets the job done, and gets out before the COBRA forces even realize what hit them, and that's just the way we like it."

Larry M. Kranseler (American with German surname) of Newton, MA.
Newton (pop. 83,829) is a residential village-based suburb of Boston. It is a relatively crime-free community and the namesake of the Fig Newton. Cesspool is also from Newton. Several Joes were born in Boston and the surrounding area: Barbecue, Blocker, Col. Courage, Cross Hair, both Docs, Side Track, and Space Shot. Tiger Claw, Lady Jaye, Dr. Link Talbot, and Wildcard are also from Massachusetts.

	A Special Weapons and Tactical specialist might seem redundant in a unit as elite as the G.I. JOE team, but not if you consider the degree to which his skills are specialized. If the G.I. JOE team is in an urban situation where there is a locked door behind which there are an unknown number of armed hostile individuals and innocent civilians, it is up to WIDE SCOPE to kick the door down and go in first. It is up to him to assess the situation, choose an appropriate course of action, and carry it out, all in the split second between kicking the door down and the firing of the first hostile shot. An extremely mellow, easy-going type of guy, WIDE SCOPE never seems to get excited about anything, maintaining a consistent level attitude through the most disturbing and frightening situations. Once, on the way to an assault on a heavily fortified COBRA safe house, when everybody else on the team was keyed-up and tense, WIDE SCOPE fell asleep in the transport. When they woke him, he yawned once, picked up his weapon, and went in to do his job. The one thing he is extremely sensitive about is his attack dog, to whom he has bonded intensely. "Are you saying my dog has a sissy name? What's so sissy about Lamont? Well? I'm waiting."

St. Thomas (pop. 51,181) is the most populous island of the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea. The other Caribbean characters are Zanzibar of the Cayman Islands, Snow Storm of Havana, Cuba, and Gristle of Montego Bay, Jamaica.

	RAMPAGE enlisted for basic at the same time as BEACHHEAD, and the two served in the same Ranger detachment. RAMPAGE was recommended for the job when the G.I. JOE team needed someone to honcho the power of the SPLIT FIRE vehicle. RAMPAGE is perfectly at home muscling three tons of steel at full barrel into the winding box canyons or narrow mountain passes that make up a typical mission. Having honed his vehicle skills in the rough terrain of Afghanistan and Bosnia, hunting COBRA patrols in anything less than the worst conditions imaginable would be a let-down. A stickler for perfection, RAMPAGE insists on doing all of the repair and re-calibration of his equipment himself. The G.I. JOE team likes having RAMPAGE around because he lets them read his comic books (as long as they don't crimp the spines). "You can tell BEACHHEAD and RAMPAGE are old friends. They're both self-assured and self-reliant. They even dress alike a lot of the time."
Toy Notes: Item #55431. The unrelated figure Rampage available by mail in 1991 was a renamed variation of Heavy Metal (85).

HOLLOW POINT - a bullet with a small hole drilled or molded into the tip to cause more damage through expansion.

	HOLLOW POINT has an intuitive skill for the proper handling and maintenance of any weapon. He was working at a local safari park when a pack of lions escaped their enclosure, endangering a group of school kids. Leaping into action, HOLLOW POINT surveyed the terrain and used a tranquilizer rifle to take down the big cats, one by one. It was his quick read of the situation, pinpoint accuracy, and willingness to put himself into danger that caught the attention of DUKE, who recruited him for the G.I. JOE team. When new weapons become available, HOLLOW POINT is responsible for training the G.I. JOE team on their use, in addition to advising mission teams on the optimal use of terrain, firing points, and correct choice of ammo. Before joining the G.I. JOE team, HOLLOW POINT taught the Range Officer course at Quantico and served with the Marine Expeditionary Unit. When a mission team needs support, HOLLOW POINT will fly the LOCUST vehicle, which in SPY TROOPS mode converts to a swamp buggy. "COBRA forces are a nasty bunch, but their techniques are bad. It's my job to make sure we're better trained and more disciplined."
Variations: Some copies had a dark blue vest that was the same color as the shirt.
